In France, every year there is a a nation-wide science festival, called Fête de la Science. This year the theme of the festival is Saveurs savantes, which imperfectly translates to Savvy flavours.
For the on-line magazine The Conversation, the festival is an occasion to highlight scientists that study topics within the theme. In fact, you can find a long list of inspiring contributions right here, including a short article by yours truly —go read it, it is easy on the mind. To my surprise, it got picked up by another pop science magazine, Science & Vie. Yay!
The original study was published a bit more than a year ago, see here and here. One consistent feedback I got, was that it was a rather technical story… and that was not a wrong assessment. Fortunately, with this pop science article, I am finally(!) developing a more intuitive way to explain how studying the part of the brain responsible for odours helps us understand the evolution of our brain.
